Turo in Canada: Some Numbers you Need to Know

Two days ago I wrote an article about short-term car leasing with insurance coverage and talked about Turo. It sparked my curiosity to start exploring some available stats, regarding how Turo works and how it has scaled in Canada to compete with the Agency Car Rental. I'm a number/stats oriented person, so I had to do an article like this:

How Turo Works

Turo is simply amazing. Just the same way Airbnb is for travelers looking for a personalized travel experience, Turo is the same, but for the driving side. The same way you may be interested in renting a space familiar, or luxurious, or affordable, or different, it is with Turo. Both solutions target a spectrum of the audience that is between the hotels/the rental agencies and closest to a more personalized and customized experience.

It has reviews, filters, special conditions, lots of photos (and verified photos), a broad spectrum of models from the most economical to luxury; it is easy and fast to get onboard.

I won't say it is what you should "uniquely" go for. Many times I've chosen hotels over Airbnb properties, depending on the circumstances of my trip, my preferences, the weather or proximity. But it is definitely an outstanding alternative to the mainstream rental process.

I need to Rent a Car for a few Days...

Turo works as if you were renting a car with an owner, but from someone directly and under the terms and conditions of an intermediary, in this case: Turo. It is a paperless transaction, fast, straightforward and with the insurance coverage.

You can pick up the vehicle or request it to be delivered at an additional cost at your convenience. Some owners limit the amount of Km driven per day, and some others do not. And then, you can find from a "high four figures" Nissan Micra to a "half a million dollars" Bentley. If Turo has something, is options.

Turo in Toronto

So, my purpose is to give you an idea of what you can find in Turo. Let's start with Toronto:

Lowest Pricing

  • 25 - 30CAD/day: Mitsubishi Mirage, Fiat 500 & Nissan Versa.
  • 30 - 40CAD/day: Multiple Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, Mazda Mazda3 & Mazda Mazda5.

Most Popular Vehicles

  • Hyundai Elantras (150+ trips), Nissan Rogue (100+ trips) & Toyota Camry (100+ trips) (Averaging 35CAD/day)

Teslas

  • 40+ Tesla vehicles at about 100 - 400CAD/day

Sport Cars

  • A 2017 Chevy Camaro - 100CAD/day
  • Some Corvettes are ranging from 150 - 600CAD/day
  • There are a couple of Convertible Jaguars and Porsche Boxters 200 - 230CAD/day

The Most Exclusive Listing

The 1981 Delorean DMC-12 available at 2,500CAD/day is a piece of art. For sure, something you won't find at the parking lot of an Alamo/Hertz. Still, 2.5k...

Turo in Vancouver

Vancouver isn't as full of alternatives in Turo as Toronto or the GTA, but still, there are some excellent alternatives:

Lowest Pricing

  • 25 - 30CAD/day: Multiple Toyota Corolla (about 7 or 8)
  • 30 - 40CAD/day: Multiple Corolla, Cruze, Civic, Accord, Altima & some Jettas.

Teslas

  • 6 Tesla vehicles at about 215 - 400CAD/day (Teslas are cheaper in Toronto)

Sport Cars

  • Multiple Ford Mustangs and Camaros at about 95CAD/day (most convertibles are less expensive in Vancouver)

The Most Exclusive Listing

I wouldn't say it is the best car on the list, but definitely the one I would choose over when going to Vancouver. It is the #1 most popular in trips, and the pricing is great for a 2017 Mustang.

Turo in Montreal

Montreal is the second largest Turo market in Canada. It has about 80% of the number of listed vehicles from Toronto and some exclusive ones like a Ferrari and a Lambo:

Lowest Pricing

  • 25 - 30CAD/day: Multiple Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Altima, Yaris & Nissan Versa.
  • 30 - 40CAD/day: Multiple Sentra, Versa, Jetta, Yaris & Focus.

Teslas

  • 15 Tesla vehicles at about 150 - 400CAD/day (Teslas are about the same price as in Toronto and cheaper than Vancouver)

Sport Cars

  • Multiple Audis (TT, S5, S3...) at about 130 - 200CAD/day

The Most Exclusive Listing

As I mentioned before, the Ferrari F430 should be (I guess), the most attractive car in Montreal available in Turo right now, although I know some guys in Laval with probably the most exclusive luxury car rental in all Québec. They have some vehicles that start at about the price of the DeLorean... for sure.
