Buick Canada works as a subsidiary of General Motors (GM) Canada. The origins of GM Canada goes back to the Oshawa Carriage Works. It was started by a farmer Robert McLaughlin in 1877. The carriage plant was a great success. Robert’s sons began producing cars with Buick engines in 1908 under the McLaughlin Motor Car Company. In 1916, the McLaughlin Motor Car Company started building Chevrolets. In 1918, GM decided to buy the McLaughlin business, and the General Motors of Canada was established. Today GM of Canada can produce more than a million units in Canada. Chevrolet cars are one of its biggest sellers.
The first Buick can be dated to 1903. It was created by David Dunbar Buick as a gasoline engine vehicle. Buick is considered one of the first success stories of the automobile industry. Yet it started as a modest company called Buick Motor Co. in Detroit, Michigan in 1903. The same year it moved to Flint, Michigan. By 1923, Buick had built its one-millionth vehicle & during World War II, it helped the war efforts through building tanks. By the 1950s, Buick cars like the Roadmaster, Riviera, Special, Super, and Skylark became iconic cars. Today Buick is known for its line of crossover vehicles.
