Subaru Canada is a subsidiary of Japanese company Subaru Corporation headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario. It markets and distributes Subaru vehicles and parts through its 91 dealers across Canada.
Subaru Corporation was initially called Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) Ltd. FHI was established in 1953, and soon the newly formed company merged with five other Japanese companies. “Subaru” is the name of the Pleiades in Japanese, the cluster of six stars and that is why it is their logo.
In 1954, the first automotive prototype FHI P-1 was revealed. However, the company got its first success with Subaru 360 in 1958. Subaru has enjoyed an excellent reputation worldwide. In 2015, the Subaru Legacy received the “Car of the Year” from the Automobile Journalist Association of Canada (AJAC).
