Winter Is Coming and Car Snow Shelters are Ready

If winter tires are a must during Canadian winters, Car Snow Shelters, also known as "Tempo" are very important (and almost "a must"). I park on the street, as driveways are more likely to be found far away from highly populated areas, but if I had one, for sure, I would be considering setting up one for the snow season.

Snow Shelters are Worth

When you park on the street, I would say you don't have many options to hide from the snow. In fact, there is none, unless you actually set up a shelter on top of your vehicle before an actual snowstorm. This means that, after a significant snowfall or even worst, a freezing rain event, you will have first to either dig out or "prepare" your vehicle before hitting the road and deal with the snow.

Snow Shelters are game changers here. Your car (or most of your car, in fact, depending on the wind) will be safely protected and ready to go as soon as you need it. Of course, you will have to deal with the way out, but it is crazy valuable the fact that you don't need to prepare it before actually going out.

When I park outside, I use to spend 15 to 30 minutes clearing out the snow after each significant weather event, before actually driving out.

Not Too Expensive

Most portable Car Snow shelters are very affordable compared to the level of benefits you can get from these. Individual ones (with enough space for a Ford F-150 pickup) price may vary from 250 - 600 CAD on retail Stores like Canadian Tire, Walmart or Costco. The cheapest ones can be financed for only 9.99CAD/month x 24 months.

For models that fit 2 vehicles, the price scale is straight, so these can be found for up to 1,000 to 1,400CAD and fit nicely on many double size driveways, which are the most common kind in the suburbs. There are even some alternatives for big trucks that start around 1,900 and it very big transport trucks.

My advice: go and get one if you have a driveway!
